REDNECK VEGAN SOCIETY CHALLENGES COMMON VEGAN IMAGE / {Global Chapter Organization}
There are a few entities out there where the likely misunderstood and colorful “personal values descriptor” known as “redneck” is coupled with the certainly misunderstood “personal values descriptor” known as “vegan.” There’s a blog.spot site known as Redneck Vegan Kitchen, and a YouTube series with a character called Vinny (and one other that seems to not have taken off). We start with a virtual fist-bump to these folks because this idea would also use the redneck term, with the formation of a international foundation known as The Redneck Vegan Society (RVS). In small towns and rural enclaves, imagine various chapters of RVS forming, with a well-known member of the community “coming out” as vegan. By simply being overt about their choices for whatever their reasons might be – and perhaps holding an occasional regular meeting where new members could attend/join if they want – the RVS could work to chip away and balance the perceived vibe of most vegans as “crybaby liberals.” The more who join each chapter - and the more RVS chapters that emerge - the better. One simple RVS Facebook Group ought to be enough to claim the society’s existence and allow others to join. Just need someone to take this idea, start it up, express a few best practices or “mission/vision/values” and tout it a bit – encouraging various chapters to start up and community leaders to emerge. Patches and stickers come next – to be sewn on trucker hats and overalls and stuck upon the bumpers of loud diesel trucks – from Redding, CA and Gold Hill, OR to Arkansas, central Florida and Northern Maine. If this idea turns you on, run with it. Or ask for a bit of help to frame it up. Onward.
