HAFF - HUNTERS AGAINST FACTORY FARMS / {Societal Movement}

Many hunters despise factory farming as much as any liberal activist, as hunters tend to respect an animal’s right to a healthy life. Talk to a hunter and many will tell you they believe that they’re doing important service by “managing populations” to help alleviate suffering, starvation, disease, and other conflict in the long-run. Whether or not hunters provide such counter-intuitive benefits to wild-animal populations, hunters as a group tend also to identify with conservation causes, making their stance to bring awareness to factory farming even more poignant, due to factory farming’s horrific environmental consequences. By sponsoring and organizing a Hunters Against Factory Farms coalition, all parties benefit. Though it’s arguable that “resisting” anything will ever really change anything, it seems to be the currency of the material world. And with HAFF, the image of animal-welfare “activism” begins to shift, normalizing the issue in the eyes of both public and government, and adding more “relevant” pressure on legislators to stop the madness. Imagine a largely right-wing, gun-owning contingent making their case alongside more liberal activists. It’s an idea that could go a long way toward evolving the image of the typical “bleeding heart” animal rights liberal. And it’s an idea that we would love to see out there in the crazy world.
