“BIDEN PARDONS 2,023 FACTORY FARM ANIMALS FOR EARTH DAY 2023” / {Government Action}
For Earth Day 2023, President Biden will pardon 2,023 factory farmed animals (an equal mix of beef cattle, dairy cows, egg hens, “friar” chickens, pigs, turkeys, farmed fish and sheep) across 33 different American factory farms. During his press conference on April 22nd, President Biden will explain that these individual animals are being pardoned in a symbolic move to force legislation and draw attention to our collective need to challenge and change our radically outdated and totally unsustainable animal exploitation industries. He will explain that all necessary steps to deliver each of these 2,023 animals to their nearest animal sanctuary have been prearranged. He will also share for the record that factory animal farming is the single largest greenhouse gas contributor, as well as facts about their waste run-off. He will announce a new federal website where people can learn more about factory farming and how to shift to plant-based eating (whitehouse.gov/pardonings). With uncharacteristic transparency, he will share the political risk of this pardoning, sharing in shocking candor that the meat, egg, dairy and fish industries have powerful political lobbies, and divulge that these lobbies are why the truths of factory farming are not widespread, and even why the government has recommended daily allowances of dairy, meat, fish and eggs. Mr. Biden will acknowledge that he and his team are prepared for the ramifications and adjustments that will be necessary to navigate, but will also remind us that it’s a small price to pay for the hope of this planet. He may even pop off a quip or two about how it wasn’t so long ago that using leeches to “treat” blood-born diseases was standard practice, and that smoking was considered “healthy,” for expectant mothers. “It’s not too late,” Biden will say. “Real legislative action to end factory farming has begun.”
